5K

The day before giving birth to my oldest daughter I weighted in at an astounding 269. Let me assure you my 5'3'' frame was not designed to be holding that much weight. A month after delivering her (via c-section) I was in the hospital again to have my gall bladder out. After a recovery that seemed to last forever I was ready to dig in and lose the weight. I began playing DDR regularly and the weight was melting off. Last minute I decided to go on a trip with my parents and lent my DDR to a friend. By the time I got it back I was out of routine and unable to start up again ( I found out I was pregnant with Hannah)

While I was pregnant with Hannah the weight never came on as much, but I still topped out just shy of 250. I left the hospital still around 230. Over the first five months I was only able to take off 8 pounds, but in the last four weeks I have taken off another 8.

You see about six weeks ago Gwen and I started running. About four weeks ago the weight started coming off and it's been coming off at a rate of just under two pounds a week. Today I ran with Gwen. I ran a 13.5 minute mile. While no were near the 7 minute mile I ran in junior high, it was much beet than the 21 minute mile I was puttering in at 6 weeks ago. I have to say I am pretty impressed with myself. First for sticking with this so long and secondly for the improvement made.

In celebration Gwen and I will be running a trail 5k on Wednesday. I expect to finish among the last, but at least I'll finish. If two months ago someone told me I'd be running and finishing a 5K on Wednesday I would have told them they were nuts. All I can say is a little adds up really quickly. I'm sure I'll have some setbacks, but for now I'm just enjoying the bit of success I've had. I think the next step will be dieting. I'm just not quite ready to go there yet.
