Breakfast Win!

After yesterday's disasterous diet day I was a bit skeptical about being able to stick with the diet. All too frequently in my life, once I've stumbled I've just allowed myself to fall. When I walked into the grocery store last night I wasn't sure of how things were going to go.

I always shop in the same pattern. From a young age, my mom always explained to me to shop produce to freezer. (I get driven nuts by stores that have their freezer section in the middle) The great part about that is it put my mind on the South Beach track.

This week I also only went down the aisles I needed and only went as far as I needed to go. Not seeing the 'oh, I could use this and it's on sale items' worked great. I ended up spending $30 less then my normal food budget.

I woke up this morning, more optimistic then I went shopping, but still not fully convinced. I stepped on the scale and to my surprise there was minimal affect on my weight. I was still in my same 10 bracket and I was feeling better about taking the day off yesterday. Even God took a break on day 7 :-)

Breakfast (before 10 today, W00t!):
  • 2 eggs scrambled with cheese
  • .5 cup broccoli
I'm not sure if I mentioned it before or not, but I have a dry erase board in my kitchen. On it I keep track of the day #, the number of days until the next phase (during the next phase it will be a countdown to my next carb introduction), the number of sugar-free calories I have left, foods to avoid, the number of pounds I lost so far and the number of glasses of water I've had so far that day. I write the numbers 1-8 and then erase one number, starting with 8, each time I drink a glass. It's been very helpful.

I have also found it helpful to keep a measuring cup on the counter with a cup. That cup is my water cup for the day. Every time I go into the kitchen I measure 8 oz of water and chug it. If I stay in the kitchen for a good period of time, ie cooking, doing dishes or whatnot, I drink another glass before I leave. I've had four glasses so far today and it's only 10 am.
